Wuppertal health index for companies (WGU)

How can the health potential of jobs to determine and clearly illustrate? This question we have the Department of Work and Organizational Psychology the University of Wuppertal trying to answer. Result of the Wuppertal health index for companies (WGU) . Similar to other index approaches the WGU provides the health potential of jobs in a single number dar. This number is calculated from the sum of weighted ratios. The figures take into account self-important resources or stressors at work (see also previous blog entry "Holistic Occupational Health Management"):
  • regulation disabilities
  • Employee-oriented leadership
  • health literacy
  • stress balance
The WGU is divided into four stages. The higher the level, the higher the health potential of the workplace.

shows there are clear links between the WGU on one side and physical complaints and absenteeism (absenteeism, sick leave) or presenteeism (attendance at work despite illness) on the other side. A low WGU is associated with many physical ailments and high absenteeism and high presenteeism.

The WGU is therefore suitable, firstly those jobs to identify where workplace health promotion is particularly shown in ( diagnosis ). Second, it can be used to assess measures of workplace health promotion ( Evaluation ). And while accompanying (formative evaluation) or final (summative evaluation).

The following slides were created for the seminar "Specific applications of the A & O psychology" in the winter semester 2009/2010, give a summary of the WGU:
